RIP Teena Marie

Author: Gangstarr Girl | Filed under: Music

The 2-Cent collective is back with another Christmas parody. You can check out the first one they did about two years ago (here) but now before you check out “Eminem,” “Rihanna “Nicki Minaj,” “Lil Wayne,” “Drake,” “Kanye West,” “Rick Ross” and more as they present a “GOOD Music” Christmas. This is hilarity at its finest. Trust me, this video is worth the 6:39 it takes to watch.

LOL @ “Waka” and “Baby,” That “authentic star tat” on his head had me rolling.

It’s sweet potato pie season! There’s nothing better than pie other than pie that can be digested easier because the ingredients aren’t over processed. Know what that means for you? Less guilt, and less tummy aching. Woohoo! The recipe I followed was by vegan chef Afiya Ibomu (she cooked for Erykah Badu) who has a book out entitled, The Vegan Soulfood Guide to The Galaxy.

It’s a handy guide that allows you to cook more plant based dishes that taste wonderful. Even if you aren’t a vegan you can still find this book helpful. And if you’re interested in veganism or at least increasing your fruit and veggie intake, Ibomu has provided a plethora of useful information, nutrition facts and steps for how you can transition to a vegetarian/vegan lifestyle. But with out further adieu, here’s the recipe (this is the only one I’m giving away from her book because the book is a worthy purchase, trust me, I’ve tried quite a few of her recipes and they’re on point).

This is a loaded post because I have a lot of goodies for you from The Real Jay Mills. She is another lady lyricist who recently got my attention. She’s part of a young crop of female rappers from the DMV (DC-Maryland-Virginia) area who have been making a lot of noise lately (shouts to RA The MC). Her latest project is her Winter Sadness mixtape, which is available for download after the jump, along with more gems from Jay including her version of Kanye’s “Devil In A New Dress.”

There was news spreading online that notorious crime boss Griselda Blanco wasn’t happy about Jacki-O naming her mixtape after her and that Blanco’s son was the one who passed the message. However, that opposite is true. The Blanco family gave Jacki-O their blessings. Jacki-O has released a statement to GangStarrGirl.com to clear up people’s misconceived notions. See belo:

I did indeed make contact with Griselda Blanco’s son Michael. He first gave me his blessings and then expressed his need for us both to find a way to relive his mother’s legacy and portray her in a way that the media never did. (Maybe I did go in too much with the cover of my mixtape) (Laughs). After speaking with him and realizing the love his mother has for her children she is much more than a common, run of the mill drug dealer. He told me he was “flattered” that I honored his mother and wished me “continued success” on my project.

Now, this is something I can work with. I wasn’t really feeling the original version (I felt it was over-hyped) because to me, it was lackluster. But THIS! Busta Rhymes came in and massacred!

“How you gonna take my hot line and make it a hot song like I ain’t posed to come and step on that sh*t like King Kong”

You know little Kim is only getting saltier, right?

P.S. I was surprised to find out that a lot of people didn’t know where the “rah rah, like a dungeon dragon” line came from (*blank stare*). If you are one of those people, do yourself a favor and Google A Tribe Called Quest’s “Scenario.” Listen to the whole song.
