Dear Montana Fishburne: Black Chicks Don’t Get Away With Porn

[ 15 ] July 31, 2010 |

Apparently Laurence Fishburne’s daughter, Montana Fishburne, thinks doing porn will jump start her acting career.

“I’ve watched how successful Kim Kardashian became and I think a lot of it was due to the release of her sex tape,” said Mo ‘Burne (don’t feel like typing out her whole name) according to Global Grind.

Now let me say this:  I’ve seen that quote on various blogs but you know how you have to read about 20 blogs and put the pieces together in order to get something remotely close to the truth so that may not be what she said ver batim, however, she really is planning to use this film as a stepping stone into stardom. See the video below where she gives her thoughts on being a female in “the industry.”

Sadly the blog attention she’s already getting from this is probably making her think that this is OK. People don’t realize that being an internet celebrity is different from being an actual celebrity, like, in real life. The web forgets in two days. Step outside your house and no one recognizes that you’re T-Baby or Bangs.

What’s worse is that Mo ‘Burne is taking her cues from white women (Paris Hilton, Pamela Anderson, etc) who blew up because of a sex tape or at least were forgiven. In this post racial America, that is still very racist, black women will never get away with releasing a sex tape and actually parlaying it into a real acting career.

Racism is so deep seeded in all of our psyches that black women are still seen as wh*res when put in situations that seem hypersexual or promiscuous.

The Sara Baartman (Hottentot Venus) effect aka the hypersexualization of black bodies lingers in modern media, meaning that black bodies equal sex attached to an object while white bodies equals sexiness attached to a woman. White women in sex tapes are seen more as victims.

Here’s an example of how folks in power think:

I once worked for a hip-hop magazine that was under the same publishing company that puts out a popular black men’s magazine–the first really popular black men’s magazine. Said hip-hop magazine gets stocked at Walmart, which is a huge deal in publishing. The magazine did a cover shoot with a female rapper and several of her shots were bikini shots. There were also some pics where she was completely covered but the best shots were the bikini shots. They weren’t raunchy pictures, it was just a black girl in a bikini but Walmart  refused to stock their shelves with the magazine that month because they considered the pictures too “raunchy.” The solution was that the hip-hop magazine ended up having to release two covers so that they could get into Walmart Almighty. However, the contradiction is that Walmart carries Maxim magazine, which is full of white T&A.

In that case, even the publishers (white Jewish men) agreed that racism was at hand. It’s something they constantly dealt with because of the black men’s mag that they owned. We all wondered if that same problem would have existed with said hip-hop mag had the rapper been Kim Kardashian. It’s acceptable for white women and Hispanic women who look  white (hence J-Lo) to have curves but sistas get no love because it’s internalized that we’re scum.

I’m confounded that the daughter of “Morpheus” thinks that doing porn is a smart way to  launch her career. It’s one thing if she just wants to do porn to launch a tipple x career–which is what I’d prefer rather than delusions of grandeur–but if not, that whole gotta-do-what-you-gotta-do-to-blow-up mentality is ridiculous. Beyond Mo ‘Burne, it’s a disturbing trend in general that women think capitalizing off of promiscuity is going to get them respect, look at Kat Stacks and all the misguided individuals who follow her and retweet her nonsense on Twitter. It’s insane.

I’m not here to judge but Houston, we have a problem. Grab the nearest young woman and show her that there’s a better way.

P.S. Papa Fishburne is probably somewhere crying his eyes out, wishing The Oracle had warned him. Smh.

This is phenomenal Starr, you are on the money!

  2. Well said! Thanks for taking the time to address the issue.

Nothing to add, you said it all!

  3. Thanks guys. This really disturbs me, smh.

  4. Reyonna says:

It’s a shame she thinks she has to do this to get ahead. If you want to do porn do porn! Just cuz you’re a Fishburne (a name she needs to abandon ASAP B4 I watch any of her porn, I’d laugh all the time) you don’t have to pretend to want to do mainstream acting.

  5. BG says:

I have no problem with the idea of her doing porn, I have a problem with her really trying to use Kim Kardashian as some sort of precedent on how to break into acting, and saying it with a straight face. Your daddy is Lawrence Fishburne…Furious Styles! Morpheus! I understand you don’t want to ride his coattails, but with that last name, it’s not like you’re taking a Greyhound bus to L.A. hoping to get your foot in the door. C’Mon Son!!!

I’m sure Larry could’ve landed her a role on “CSI” as “Dead Hooker #2”. She gets to be on national TV instead of every dude’s computer, and she would’ve only been half-naked!

  6. GenoBaby says:

It’s odd that she thinks porn will jump start her career… If I was her I would throw around that my daddy is friggin’ “Morpheus” and get myself into Hollywood that way. Nothing’s wrong with a little nepotism.

  7. @ Geno

Right! If I was trying to kick start an acting career and my parent was a celebrity everyone would know it!

  8. BG says:

Wait…she did not drop Kim Kardashian as some sort of precedent. She really did not just…know what? I’m gonna leave it alone. I understand not wanting to ride Larry’s coattails, but when producers find out who she is, they’d give her a gig just on GP! Just sad.

I mean, she could easily have gotten a role on “CSI” with Larry. Granted, she would’ve played “Dead Hooker #3”, but still, it would’ve been national TV, instead of being downloaded in every dude’s dorm room! Just sayin’…

  9. it’s rather unfortunate… judging from the video she is really just a clueless young lady… mentally she is not equipped with logical thinking… it almost does not seems real…

  10. Montana, I don’t know who Kim Kardashian is but I do know who Paris and Pamela are and you have to realize that America has a burning love for young white flesh. And that love excludes you simply because of the skin color you were born with.

Race and sex are always hot topics in America and right now you are a hot topic because most of ‘them’ just want to see how low you will go. Believe it or not there are people in this world who get a perverse pleasure out of watching beautiful young black girls debase themselves. The will be laughing (black and white alike) but they will be laughing ‘at’ you not ‘with’ you.

And when that shame hits you later in life, it may just be more than you can bear. The type of humiliation you are setting yourself up for can scar your psyche for the rest of your life.

I’m going to tell you something that your daddy and momma should have told you a long time ago: You are a spirit being using this flesh body to experience this life and for the short time you are granted to exist on this earth your energies should be put toward more useful things (useful to you and the rest of the world) than sex.

I am an older woman now but I was young and pretty like you once and I was a stripper. I remember the feeling of being near-naked in a room full of men. In my young mind, they all wanted me, they all desired me and that made me feel ecstatic! It was a bonafide high!

But as I grew wiser, I realized that all I had represented to them was an object. The didn’t ‘desire’ me, they just shouted and cheered because there was a girl in the room stupid enough to expose herself to them for money.

There never has been and never will be anything exotic, erotic, nor romantic about a woman performing whoreish acts.

    Not for the woman, anyway.

Nobody is going to love you simply because you expose yourself. As a matter of fact, after awhile, nobody is even going to care because before you can finish that first porn flick, there will already be a girl younger and prettier than you waiting in the wings.

Go to school, get a job, or go build a school in Africa. Haiti needs help. You have been blessed with a life of luxury, maybe its time to give something back. Perhaps by giving to help others for a little while you will come to understand the true path you want to take in life.

Your world involves people who are not really alive, but you do not have to be like them. You can live and leave them behind you to die in the filth they have been wallowing in for most of their lives.

A lot of people are smiling at you today. Anxious, waiting, breathing hard, hoping and praying that you will be naive enough to actually go on film and expose yourself, but secretly in their hearts, all they really want is for your life not to shine so brightly.

They want you to be dead with them.

Run girl, get away from them while you still can!

  11. Dash says:

Yea. I just don’t get it. She can simply ride on her Daddy’s coat-tails. Seems easy enough that way.

  12. STAYMATIC says:

    Hmmm…. I have 3 things to say/write
    1. I can figure out the titles to her movies… “May Tricks” “Higher Yearning” “Fuckin Boyz In the Hood”
    2. At least she’s not going to use the name FISHBURNE as her “performing” alias.
    3. I suppose she ignored how well sextapes/porn/pictorials worked for the sistas of Flava of Love, the one Black girl on Rock of Love, Eve, Trina, Rhianna (sorta), Vanessa Williams, Foxy Brown, Cassie (who?) and a couple dozen other folks I’m forgetting.
History/logic/everything is definitely NOT on her side here.

  13. c-lo says:

I think she grew up hanging around whites folks and thinks shes white,or like so many kids these days she thinks Racism is in the past, she needs a paul mooney
    (wake Up call)

  14. Paris says:

You couldn’t be more right. When you’re black, there’s no such thing as “benefit of the doubt.”
