Nneka Makes Stateside Debut, ‘Concrete Jungle’ Available Today
The Nigerian/German songstress makes her United States debut today with Concrete Jungle but iTunes is also offering an early download of her album for $6.99 this week.
Nneka has been on the scene since 2003, working with German-Afghan producer DJ Farhot and released her debut album, Victim of Truth in 2005 in Germany, England, France, Netherlands, Nigeria and Japan to rave reviews. She is influenced by Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, Mos Def and Lauryn Hill to whom people draw comparisons.
This is “Uncomfortable Truth,” a single from Concrete Jungle.
Here’s a throwback Nneka joint (“Africans”):
This video was shot on location in Lagos, Nigeria.
She’s also on tour in the U.S. this month. Find out more via her MySpace.
This release has a lot of the same songs as “No Longer At Ease” but I’m interested to hear the new material, so I’ll cop “Concrete Jungle.” She’s going to be in Chicago on Feb. 14th – I’ll prolly take myself on a Valentine’s Day date to go see her 😀
