Anyone who knows me will tell you that I’ve been into all things nails for a long time–longer than it has been a trend to rock nail art and to wear cutting edge colors, but I digress. I lost my inspiration and enthusiasm for nails a little while back and could care less, like I used to about absolutely having to have some kind of polish on my nails. But then, all of a sudden, I got bitten by the bug again. So, upon this wave of inspiration, I remembered that the Wah Nails Book of Art was released in the States and ordered it. Alas, it has finally arrived on my doorstep and I am beside myself. Please excuse the bootleg pic above.

In short, Wah Nails is a salon in London in the same vain as some of my New York Favs like Valley NYC  and Sakura Nails. They specialize in cutting edge and unusual nail art designs. Surprisingly, there aren’t many salons like these that exist, at least in the US and even in Europe. Nail art isn’t such an anomaly but if you want the overall experience of being pampered in a well maintained establishment in addition to non cliche nail art, you won’t find that easily. It’s like, nice establishments pamper you but half moon manicures is their idea of cutting edge and then there’s the hood spots. Hood spots do nail art but they don’t take your nail health and general well-being into much consideration.

Wah Nails opened in 2009 and has been taking off ever since. At the moment there’s a the actual salon (in Dalston, I believe) and then there’s a pop up shop in TopShop London. At the rate that the business is growing, I wouldn’t be surprised if it expanded overseas…hopefully to the US. But in the meantime, I’ll be trying some of the do-it-yourself designs in the book. I’ll get back to you on that.
