Sorry there’s nothing here. It’s been a long tedious process to get this redesign going and it’s still not complete. And I clearly have no archives. Stay tuned. I’ll be back with better content. Bare with me.
The Education of Sonny Carson has some similarities to Sweet Sweetback’s Baad Asssss Song but with better storytelling and based on actual events. It’s the tale of Sonny Carson (based on his autobiography), a bright young man who gets sucked into gang turf warfare (between the Lords and the Hawks), ending with him doing time in the slammer. Carson eventually turns his life around, becoming an activist and community leader who set a positive example for other troubled youth in his Bed-Stuy neighborhood (where the movie was shot).
*Sonny Carson is the father of the late Lumumba “Professor X” Carson of X-Clan.
