Black Girls Rock – noon:30 Style [Video Interview]
I know these ladies are probably giving me the side eye, because I interviewed them in December, a week before Christmas and I was going to post the video on Dec 29, the day before they had a show in Brooklyn…but I didn’t. Not to make excuses but I lost all inspiration to blog for several reasons but months later it seems to have returned. Plus, I have a lot of cool interviews in the bag that I can’t just let go to waste. Enter noon:30.
[Video] Beyonce in “Why Don’t You Love Me”
“Why Don’t You Love Me” – Beyoncé from Beyoncé on Vimeo. Beyonce looked hot, I’ve always been a fan of 40s pin up girl fashion. Did you peep her blue nails? And props to Solange for writing the song.
[Video] Lady GaGa ft. Beyonce in ‘Telephone’
I loved it. It’s so Quentin Tarrantino, Blaxploitation. Creative videos rule!
Beyonce Rocks Boxing Kitten in Brazil, Get the Look For Less
We all know that Beyonce and A. Keys are shooting a video in Brazil but what caught my eye was Bee’s outfits. I LOVE African print, especially when it’s worn in unconventional edgy styles like the jacket Beyonce is wearing. That, my friends, is by a brand called Boxing Kitten. Their clothes ain’t cheap but they’re definitely cute. Style tip: If you like want the look for less, buy your favorite tribal print fabric and get a seamstress, preferably an African one (there’s tons of them in big cities) and have them make your outfit of choice. You’ll pay less.

Roc 4 Life Contest Winner: Introducing Atlas’
Roc4life.com and GangStarrGirl.com teamed up back in May in search of a dope female mc for the “Roc Your 16 Bars” contest. It was tough competition as the ladies really stepped it up but in the end, Harlem native AtLas’ was the winner. Get to know her as she talks about her affiliation with MC Lyte and her love for hip-hop.
God Mama of Hip-Hop/Soul Solute: Grace Jones
I just found out that Grace Jones will be performing at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom on Thursday, and am bummed because my unemployed-self can’t afford to buy tickets willy-nilly. (Anyone wanna donate to a struggling journalist?) However, the least I can do is honor her legacy because she doesn’t get the props she deserves when it comes to her immense influence on pop-culture, especially hip-hop and soul music. Her first name might be Grace, but she personifies fierce! Grace Jones has influenced hip-hop and many-a-diva from Rihanna to Patra to Lil’ Kim to Lady Ga Ga–from their senses of fashion to Read the rest of this entry »
