Starting The Loc’d Revolution…And Dealing With Stupid People In The Process

[ 0 ] October 31, 2011 |

I wrote a story for TheGrio.com, about positive and beautiful women who are successful in their careers but just happen to wear their hair loc’d. I felt it was important to write the piece because for a long time, women with loc’d hair have been overlooked. In various mainstream media reports about natural hair and even in Chris Rock’s Good Hair (which was wack, but I digress…different blog), locs were not discussed. There’s even a divide in the natural hair community between locs and loose naturals. The latter was a topic I wanted to tackle in my piece but when I realized that there was so much to cover in general, like the origins first, that I focused my piece more on the silly things people say and believe about locs. I think it’s a beautiful informative piece but of course, like everywhere online, the comments reflect just how much people lack reading comprehension and how much people are ok with being ignorant, even when presented with actual facts. I’m going the tackle the issue of locs a lot more here, and I will share my own story with my natural hair story since I haven’t done it. But in the meantime, CLICK HERE to head over to the The Grio and leave your thoughts.
