The Betty Davis ‘Nasty Gal’ Film Needs Your Help
Nasty Gal: The Many Lives of Funk Queen Betty Davis is a sure to be awesome film that needs your help with funding! Let me start from the beginning…
Betty Davis is an unsung shero in the music landscape. The funk goddess delivered a few rare grooves that she wrote and produced in the late 60s and 70s, but she is probably best known for marrying and profoundly influencing Miles Davis. Betty Davis introduced Miles to the new fashion and popular music trends of the era, and Miles, in his autobiography, credited Betty with inspiring his future musical explorations by introducing him to Jimi Hendrix and Sly Stone. They were only married for a year.
Moving forward, Betty Davis went on to produce a few records like, Nasty Gal, They Say I’m Different, Love or Desire, and Betty Davis, and then she just went ghost.
However, it’s about time someone tell her story. Filmmakers Phil Cox and Damon Smith seek to tell Davis’ story by exploring the enigmatic life of the funk diva.

Native Voice Films, the production company behind the forthcoming film, has to pay major fees for music licensing, Davis’ archive, travel expenses, and more. If you are interested in supporting then head to the film’s IndiGoGo page, which has 16 days left.
If you do support, you could stand to get credits on the film, a signed vinyl from Davis herself, and more.
