I couldn’t resist being cliche with the title of this post. Speaking of temptation, you will find a lot of it at Collecther, a quaint vintage boutique located in Bed-Stuy (or Clinton Hill depending on who you ask).

Last weekend I met up with Patrice of Looking Fly On A Dime and we visited three of her favorite thrift shops. Check out the video below to see what we found and head over to Patrice’s site for more scoop on how to thrift effectively and basically, look fly on a dime (no pun intended).
Those of you who followed my now defunct blog on Honeymag.com know that I love Not Just Vintage. It’s a cool boutique located in the heart of Bed-Stuy with super low prices and great clothes–a lot of which is mod Afrocentric. They carry indie designers like Harriet’s Alter Ego but also cool 80s inspired blouses and blazers. I sometimes secretly like dressing like Sandra from 227 (I guess the jig is up) and they supply a lot of my compulsion to do that. You can get blazers for as low as $25 bucks, tops, bottoms and skirts for as low as $5 and cute accessories. Right now they’re operating on their winter schedule, which is from Friday through Saturday from noon to 8pm and on Sunday from 1pm to 6pm. Owner, LaMonica also takes appointments if those hours don’t work for you. You can also expect 25% off all Not Just Vintage brand items every Saturday and more deals at times (you can join their mailing list to find out, see the link to their site at the bottom of this post).

This is a guest post from my friend Loud Pen, who had the amazing opportunity to check out Style Art Week in Uzbekistan. I thought this was an amazing opportunity for her, especially since she has had a rough year, similar to my bad year last year. But anyway, she wrote a dope piece about
Dream BIG: How Fashion, Uzbekistan, and Gulnara Karimova Inspired Me
First off, let me say that it is an honor to be guest posting on @GangStarrgirl’s blog. I’ve been reading for awhile now and @GangStarrgirl was definitely one of the bloggers who inspired me to write better blog posts and feature only the best music. She’s a sick writer/blogger and it’s a pleasure to be collaborating with her. Now let’s get to the matter at hand.
On September 9, 2010 my life changed (again, lol). That day, I attended my first ever Fashion Blogger Conference and my first New York Fashion Week. On the way to the Involving Influence Fashion Blogger Conference, I remember riding the subway listening to Jazmine Sullivan’s song, “Dream BIG”. As I always do, I began to daydream and imagine the what-ifs. What if I go to this conference and meet some amazing people? What if I go to fashion week and see some amazing shows? What if my blog finally starts getting some serious hits? What if I start getting invited to cover other fashion weeks, especially ones outside the U.S.?
Guess what y’all? After that day, all these things came true. I met some amazing people at the IFB Conference including the owner of Style Sample, a Fashion Blogger magazine that I’ll be contributing to, the blog began to grow, and I was invited to cover Style.uz Art Week in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The ladies take you on a brief shopping trip to LA’s, The Boogie Den. It’s a cool dig where the clothes are $10 a lb.
GangStarrGirl.com is a proud sponsor! Come out and meet some dope women in the industry (special appearances by Nina Sky and TBoz) and celebrate the success of independent designer, Annie Basulto.
There will be a fund raiser raffling products and services over $500, all proceeds go to ‘A Mothers Heart’ by T-Boz for Sickle cell support. More about Cubannie Links…

Admittedly, I’ve never been a Trina fan. I was always indifferent because I just never clicked with her music enough (with the exception of a song or two). However, she has been the most consistent femcee with a major deal in the last decade as far as putting out consecutive music. I’ve discovered throughout my journey as a writer that people’s personalities help tremendously. I got the chance to interview her for nearly an hour last week because she guest edited VIBE.com on Friday. We talked about her fitness plan, she gave us a girl power playlist, she revealed how she dealt with the embarrassment of her stolen phone pics getting leaked and she also talked about her use of the word “bitch” and broke down her new single, “My Bitches.” If you’ve heard the song (or any of her music) then you know she uses the word as a positive. What stood out to me the most about her was how unapologetic, friendly and confident she was. She has a beautiful aura and I hope to interview her again. I secretly (but not so secretly, anymore) want to write someone’s autobiography (I’m trying to be like Aliya S. King). Maybe she’ll be the one, but I digress. In the meantime, I’ll dig up some of her old music and give her the chance I never did.
But as far as the topics we covered…
The homie Cocoa Bella over at Cool Cruel World recently did a dope photoshoot for an editorial she is working on called “Bad B*tch Bike Club.” It’s a photographic series that tells the story of three New York City girls who are rebellious, fearless, sexy and as Cocoa always says, haute. The vixens are running amok, and turning heads wherever they go!
Cocoa enlisted the help of brands like Brian Wood, Good Wood NYC, Sammy B Designs and House of Jackie Brown to pull off the edgy look she was going for.
Like a true renaissance woman, Cocoa acted as the creative director, stylist, model and editor for this shoot. “I was inspired to do this editorial by all the wonderful clothes and innovative ideas that all these designers came up with,” she says. “I pulled all these people together to create an editorial to not only tantalize the senses, but display all the wonderful talent that all these awesome people involved have to offer.”
