Mary J Blige is going on HSN this Saturday (7/31) to launch her new fragrance, My Life. In an effort to send women to college this fall, Mary, FFAWN and HSN have teamed up and $1 from each sale of the fragrance on Saturday will be donated to FFAWN. Hopefully several young women will benefit from this.
I went on a Twest (Twitter quest) yesterday for this nail color. It’s beautiful! I was told that it could possibly be either OPI’s “Russian Navy” or Rescue Beauty’s “Mismas” taking into consideration how the light hit it. I copped Russian Navy (the matte version) from Ricky’s today because it was the closest color I could think of but the more I examine it, the more I see that it’s close but not quite: Read the rest of this entry »
Yep, I’ve teamed up with Apple Bottoms to give you a present. The first person who answers the trivia question right wins a 4 oz bottle of the Apple Bottoms perfume (pictured above). It smells nice, by the way.
Fragrance creators say, “We found our inspiration around the apple blossoms, and built a beautiful bouquet of transparent florals mingled with tropical fruits and drizzled with succulent nectar, all wrapped with golden amber, musk and vanilla.”
Minx nails have been all the rage in the celebrity community but they start at about $55 a pop. I don’t know about y’all, but I can’t afford that. I found a nice alternative. Enter China Glaze. They released a dazzling collection of metallic varnish a couple of months ago called “Khrome,” and I am a stan.
Not only do their bright colors carry into the spring fashion trend of metallic nails, but they’re so rich and long lasting that they give a Minx effect. I tried it out. Check out the results… Read the rest of this entry »
Here’s a treat for you. The already dirt cheap ELF is discounting their minerals line.
Elf Minerals
I sometimes use their mineral foundation and I like it a lot. That’s a really big statement coming from a brown girl. You know, the darker you are the harder it is to find foundation that actually matches your complexion. ELF’s mineral foundation is not for heavy coverage, just fyi.
Getting calgel is neither cheap nor practical if you don’t really go anywhere but the perfect opportunities presented themselves for me to indulge–Christmas and my trip to Mexico. Calgel is is a Japanese technique where your nails are polished with layers if gel (made of rubber) that is hardened using a UV lamp. They call it a nail strengthening system but I wouldn’t go that far. The great thing about calgel is that there is no filing or extreme buffing of your natural nails. They simply polish on top (in coats), let it dry, and you keep it moving. Once you take it off, your natural nails are perfectly in tact–unlike with acrylic–and a lot longer. I’m assuming that’s where they get the strengthening part from but the calgel is more like a temporary shell. There is no added nourishment.
Some time last year I discovered a fly beauty blog named Clumps of Mascara, and have been checking back every day since. Brittany, the publisher, is the coolest. And although my blog isn’t technically a beauty blog, she knows that I’m a product junkie and graciously invited me to a beauty blogger networking event in NYC last Saturday. It came at a great time for me because I’ve decided to expand my post material.
“Bloggin’ Beauties” was the brain child of Brittany and Yana (of My Own Judge). The lovely ladies who came out were treated to free manicures by nail expert Jacqueline Saulsbery, and we got to play with makeup from brands like Stila, Orly, Zoya, Thevi Cosmetics, Tarte, Victoria’s Secret and more.
