I had seen Sally Hansn’s Salon Effects in local drug stores and wrote them off because I previously tried similar products but didn’t haveĀ much success. I used the Sephora brand Minx but they only lasted a day so I was discouraged. However, I serendipitously happened upon a huge shipment of Salon Effects (thanks Tractenberg) and I was in heaven. The prints were absolutely stunning but did they live up to the brand’s promise that they would lastĀ for up to 10 days?
I’ve been experimenting when them all summer and I’m pleased with the results.

Snapped: Rihanna’s Money Nails, How You Can Get Your Own
Author: Gangstarr Girl | Filed under: Fashion/Style, NailsI went on a Twest (Twitter quest) yesterday for this nail color. It’s beautiful! I was told that it could possibly be either OPI’s “Russian Navy” or Rescue Beauty’s “Mismas” taking into consideration how the light hit it. I copped Russian Navy (the matte version) from Ricky’s today because it was the closest color I could think of but the more I examine it, the more I see that it’s close but not quite:

Minx nails have been all the rage in the celebrity community but they start at about $55 a pop. I don’t know about y’all, but I can’t afford that. I found a nice alternative. Enter China Glaze. They released a dazzling collection of metallic varnish a couple of months ago called “Khrome,” and I am a stan.
Not only do their bright colors carry into the spring fashion trend of metallic nails, but they’re so rich and long lasting that they give a Minx effect. I tried it out. Check out the results…

How to Get the Minx Nails Look Recession Style

Getting calgel is neither cheap nor practical if you don’t really go anywhere but the perfect opportunities presented themselves for me to indulge–Christmas and my trip to Mexico. Calgel is is a Japanese technique where your nails are polished with layers if gel (made of rubber) that is hardened using a UV lamp. They call it a nail strengthening system but I wouldn’t go that far. The great thing about calgel is that there is no filing or extreme buffing of your natural nails. They simply polish on top (in coats), let it dry, and you keep it moving. Once you take it off, your natural nails are perfectly in tact–unlike with acrylic–and a lot longer. I’m assuming that’s where they get the strengthening part from but the calgel is more like a temporary shell. There is no added nourishment.
